8 better ways of doing an Engineering Project

Projects during the course of Engineering can be vital in getting an initial breakthrough into the technical industry besides giving a hands on experience with the technology, which is much valued than the theoretical scholarship. The value that a project adds to one’s CV can be boosted in a number of ways. Rather than spending the time on projects that are just “exercises”, utilizing it to solve some “real world” technical problem will fetch more value, visibility and understanding of the technology. There are several opportunities like contests, internships etc available for the students to contribute their innovative ideas and gain wide recognition. Affiliation of the projects with such well known programs provides important networking and career openings. Students can also get the maximum out of their projects by converting them into publications of reputed conferences. Developing a project into an entrepreneurial venture is becoming a hot trend these days. Backed by many generous grants, this idea can also be an interesting game to try.
This session throws light on some of the most happening opportunities for the Engineering students and the best practices.

BVBCET Students win the title “IEEE Distinguished Student HUmanitarian”

Overview

B.V.Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering & Technology ’s Electronics & Communication Branch students have taken up an exciting venture to use Electronics to help Physically/Mentally Handicapped children of USHAS Center for Exceptional Children, Hubli (www.ushas.org ) by developing games/devices/toys etc that will create excitement/interest in the children to play them & hence undergo physical/mental exercise which is prescribed to them to overcome their disability but normally tend to neglect due to lack of enthusiasm & interest.
Disabilities in children can be detected in early stages. A child who cannot walk properly (having gait disorders) has to be motivated to walk so that he can have better and healthier legs. It can also help strengthen muscles and improve the reflexes of incapacitate and developmentally delayed children. The rate of impairment increases, if not addressed appropriately and may eventually end up in permanent physical disability. Similarly mentally challenged children face many problems in cognitive processing. By using technology, we can enhance these cognitive abilities.
The concept for the project was suggested by Mr. R. S. Okhade of the USHAS Center for exceptional children (www.ushas.org ), Hubli. The projects were mentored and guided by Prof B.L.Desai – Vice Principal, BVBCET. The projects were funded by the Deshpande Centre for Social Entrepreneurship (www.deshpandefoundation.org ) under the LEAD (Leaders Accelerated Development) program.

Walking Tutor – Excercising aid for physically disabled children

1. Project overview:

Physical disabilities in children can be detected in early stages. A child who cannot walk properly has to be motivated to walk so that he can have better and healthier legs. It can also help strengthen muscles and improve the reflexes of incapacitate and growing children.
The concept for the project was suggested by Mr. R. S. Okhade of the USHAS, Hubli – a local centre for exceptional children. As per his suggestion, a system will be designed electronically, much like an interactive game that intends to encourage children to walk aiding their muscles’ development. Children being the focus of the project, an effort will be made to make the system more interactive and amusing so that active participation is promoted.
